Blitzed out

gallery08_fs[1]Well, it’s been a long day and a full one so it’s a very short post tonight. The winners of the Chapter 1 Blitz competition run by Freshly Squeezed Reads were announced this morning amid a virtual flurry of tweets! And I’m proud to say my first chapter from Facing Up got an honourable mention from my fellow competitors in the peer reviews πŸ™‚ The critiques were revealed yesterday and were very interesting, ranging from two star ratings to five! There were very constructive comments, and in particular I found a common issue raised – that my old addiction to tautology is still with me in varying ways. In particular I like to add unnecessary adverbs to my descriptions. No wonder my word counts can be high πŸ˜‰ But there were some great compliments about the suspense and the main character Carly – in particular one of the teen reviewers (a 13 year old): Β This first part is very well written! I was very interested and liked it all. The suspense kept me interested the whole time, the description was very good and I like her point of view of the car ride! I liked this piece very much. Love it! It’s also been interesting just participating in a competition run entirely online, with communication mostly via Twitter and email. It’s a fantastic way to increase your social media profile as an author. And I’ll be looking forward to reading the winners from the various sections (Industry Professionals and Industry-Recognized Authors,Β Peer Reviews, Young Adult Vote, and Freshly Squeezed Reads’ own choice) – I’m hoping to see many of them in print very soon πŸ™‚
