Yep, I’m still around, I just had a blip in proceedings and didn’t have anything prepared for Sunday night’s blog. I’ve had an arthroscopy on my left hip which involved removing a bony growth on the end of my femur, plus removal of infected tissue and the shredded cartilage where the growth had been rubbing against the inside of my hip socket.
Oh yes, lovely stuff – I’ve been cringing at the words used: ‘shaving’ the bone away until it was concave, not convex. ‘Infected tissue’. ‘Shredded cartilage’. At least they couldn’t pin or staple the cartilage due to its reduced state, that also gave me the heebie-jeebies at the thought! My favourite at the moment is the surgeon warning me several times that there is still a large area of ‘raw tissue’ remaining… if I didn’t feel sore before, I did after every mention of this!
I went back to work last week, after twelve days of recovering. Unfortunately with the following exhaustion (work gets busier for me this time of year) plus needing to do a few things on the weekend, I just wasn’t that keen or imaginative about writing a blog.
But I saw the surgeon for a review yesterday and all is going well. I now use just one crutch, have two large puncture wounds (arghh! awful words again!) in my upper thigh that are healing well, and have found that I have a smaller version of the same growth in my right hip.
Well, that last bit’s not so good, but at least it means I know to go ahead and get the same procedure done if the pain develops. I left the other hip for well over five years until the pain meant I wasn’t sleeping at night. Yes, I know that sounds stupid, but originally it was just something that occurred on and off over the years, with no tests showing anything, and no-one could seem to tell me what it was, until it gradually built up into something I couldn’t ignore. I finally had an MRI this year (they’re expensive so you need some sharp pain to know it’s worth it) and now I tell people not to put these things off!
So I’m hoping for some extra energy once it’s all healed and I can get back into walking the dogs, riding my bike to work, and doing a lot more than I was doing – plus MUCH more writing!
Now to catch up on everyone else’s blogs too 🙂
